Wild Carp Companies Staff
Paul Russell, Staff - Wild Carp Companies of Central New York
Paul has been fishing NY and abroad for over 35 years. At age 5, Paul was given his first fishing pole from his grandfather and has been passionately fishing ever since.
Throughout his years of fishing, Paul has come to the realization as to why he fishes: he loves catching big fish. Four years ago, Paul rediscovered the Common Carp as a sport fish. He caught plenty of Carp in the past but not as a targeted species.
After seeing the success of the annual Carp tournament in Baldwinsville, NY, Paul began to seriously focus on catching trophy Carp. After having great success, Paul realized he was hooked on Carping because “Carp have power, size and speed; what more could you ask for?” Paul will fish for Carp using every style imaginable including: Pay-Laker, Euro, noodle rodding and fly casting.
Paul’s passion for Carp is recognized in his prize-winning 2010 tournament season landing in the money for both the Wild Carp Companies Advanced Strategies Adventures and the Mickey’s Bait & Tackle tournaments.
Paul’s efforts came together nicely in the Wild Carp Fall Qualifier where, along with team mate Sean Lehrer, they took 1st place for Big 4 Weight and Biggest Fish.
Having fished the 4 corners of the US; Paul has had the opportunity to fish out of San Diego into Mexican waters in search of Pacific Yellowtail, off the Kona Coast in Hawaii for Marlin and Trevally, out of Bellingham, Washington for Pacific Salmon, ocean run Brook Trout from Prince Edward Island, out of New England and the Mid Atlantic for Striped Bass, False Albacore, Bluefish and Bonito; and Paul has spent time fishing in SW Florida catching countless Snook and Redfish.
When Paul isn’t travelling abroad in pursuit of large fish, he often finds himself fishing Lake Ontario and it’s tributaries for Trout and Salmon.
